Angels

Many words have been written about angels. The Bible has much to say about it.
Modern doctrines of "angelology" and "guardian angels" are often highly speculative and outrun the evidence of the New Testament, but angelic concern and care for believers cannot be denied.

Someone has written about angels: "Disciples of Christ have friends in high places".
And that seems to be the evidence of the NT.

Consider:
Heb 1:13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?

Heb 1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

A number of observations about this verse:

• Angels are ministering spirits.
• For them that shall be heirs of salvation.

An important word:

Ministering:
1) relating to the performance of service, employed in ministering.

We see then in this verse that angels are for them that inherit salvation (Christians) and that they are sent forth to aid them.

A ministering spirit is one that is employed to execute the will of God. The proper meaning of the word here ~leitourgika~ is, pertaining to public service, or the service of the people and is applied particularly to those who were engaged in the public service of the temple. They were those who rendered aid to others; who were helpers or servants. Such is the meaning as used here. They are employed to render aid or assistance to others--to wit, to Christians.

Compare this concept of ministering to Acts 6: 1- 6
-Here we find that men were appointed to serve others.

Adam Clarke wrote about Hebr. 1: 14:
All the angels, even those of the highest order, are employed by their Creator to serve those who believe in Christ Jesus. What these services are, and how performed, it would be impossible to state. Much has been written on the subject, partly founded on Scripture, and partly on conjecture. They are, no doubt, constantly employed in averting evil and procuring good. If God help man by man, we need not wonder that he helps man by angels. We know that he needs none of those helps, for he can do all things himself; yet it seems agreeable to his infinite wisdom and goodness to use them. This is part of the economy of God in the government of the world and of the Church; and a part, no doubt, essential to the harmony and perfection of the whole.

What are other verses that explains how this works?

Mat 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Mat 4:11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Here we find that it is said about angels that they aided Jesus after He was tempted.
Jesus had gone through a very difficult time, he was exhausted, he had fasted for forty days and forty night and he was hungry. (verse 2)

Luk 22:41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

Luk 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

Luk 22:43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

Here we find words again that Jesus, when He was in the garden and prayed, was given aid while he was under much pressure.

When one reads Matt. 18: 10 it shows us that we have angels.

Mat 18:10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.

Taking these verses in their proper context we see who them "little ones" are: In verse 3 the ones that are converted are "like" little children.
In verse 4 it is said that if "these little ones" become humble like little children, that person will be the greatest in the kingdom. So, we conclude that the little ones are believers in Christ.

And to them he says that "their angels" in heaven behold the face of the Father.

The Bible is not always clear as to how the angels work among mankind.
We do not want to speculate on that, yet we do want to understand that they are there for them that inherit salvation.

Some thoughts from the Psalms.

Psa 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

Psa 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD isgood: blessed isthe man thattrusteth in him.

from this verse, we understand and are taught that angels encamp around those that fear God.

The word encamp is an interesting word, it is a word that talks about protection.

35:1 <A Psalmof David.> Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.

Psa 35:2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.

Psa 35:3 Draw out also the spear, and stop the wayagainst them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I amthy salvation.

Psa 35:4 Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.

Psa 35:5 Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them.

Psa 35:6 Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.

Psa 35:7 For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.

In this Psalm we find words that angels persecute them that stand against them that fear the Lord.

Dan 3:28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

From this verse in Daniel we understand that God, through angels, delivered His faithful man. So we understand that God is doing the work, yet He used angels to carry out His work.

Psa 91:9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

Psa 91:10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Psa 91:11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Psa 91:12 They shall bear thee up in theirhands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

are given charge over Gods faithful people. They are the agents of God to carry out the work for Him.

103:19 The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.

Psa 103:20 Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.

Psa 103:21 Bless ye the LORD, all yehis hosts; yeministers of his, that do his pleasure.

see confirmed what we have written above that angels are Gods agents in this world. They are His ministers. He is the great Ruler, angels are his agents to carry out the work that He is doing in this world.
